Given the proliferation of navigation services, large-scale vehicle trajectory data has become an important resource for analyzing actual travel behavior. However, conventional representative route selection methods often rely on a single highest-volume route, limiting their ability to reflect the complex travel structures of urban road networks. This study proposes a representative route extraction framework using vehicle trajectory data that considers the structural characteristics of intra-city travel. Focusing on Bucheon City, highway and through-traffic movements were excluded to isolate urban traffic patterns. A weighted representativeness index combined with route similarity-based clustering was applied to extract representative route sets. The results indicate that most OD pairs can be represented by a small number of representative routes, while some complex OD pairs contain structurally distinct alternative routes. In addition, the proposed method was able to reflect alternative corridors and distributed traffic structures within urban road networks. These findings provide a basis for trajectory-based urban traffic analysis and representative route-oriented transportation planning applications.
