This discussion aimed to examine the efforts of the community to restore the identity of Korean Buddhism, shed light on the purification movement for the future, and honor its spirit. Specifically, it reviewed the current status of materials related to the purification movement and summarized considerations on how to implement them in the present. Materials related to the purification movement were examined by classifying them into source books, materials concerning the history of Buddhist orders, and materials related to oral history. Beginning with Modern and Contemporary History of Korean Buddhism (as Seen Through Newspapers) I, published over 30 years ago by the Seonwoo Doryang Association for the Study of Modern and Contemporary Korean Buddhism, and Journal of Modern Korean Buddhist History by the Institute of Buddhist History at Jungang Sangha University, the study examined purification movement materials that testified to history through organized activities. It summarized why, for what purpose, and how each sourcebook was compiled and organized. By summarizing the nature and significance of each source book, the study examined the essence and significance of the purification movement and discussed its spirit and value. Through this, it will be possible to summarize the characteristics of the purification movement materials. We sought to establish a direction for constructing vivid materials that could serve as a guide for exploring the purification movement. In the era of the great digital transformation, this paper aims to establish a direction for the through the case study of establishing an archive for Buddhist documentary heritage. To fully reveal the complex consensus embodied in the Purification Movement, it proposes pursuing multifaceted utilization premised on scalability and digitization. By designing a ‘Purification Movement Ontology’ and constructing an ontology that aims for a semantic database, this paper examines the direction toward establishing the , which will serve as the starting point for building core data for the ‘Korean Buddhism Sovereign AI’ in preparation for the great AI transformation.

본 논의는 한국불교의 정체성을 회복하고 미래를 위한 정화운동을 밝히고 그 정신을 기리려고 했던 공동체의 노력을 살펴보고자 하였다. 바로 정화운동 관련 자료의 현황을 살펴 이를 현재에 어떻게 구현할 것인가에 대한 고민을 정리하였다. 정화운동 관련 자료를 자료집과 종단사 관련 자료 및 구술사 관련 자료로 구분하여 살펴보았다. 30여 년 전 선우도량 한국불교근현대사연구회가 간행한 『(신문으로 본) 한국불교근현대사Ⅰ』과 중앙승가대 불교사학연구소의 『한국 현대불교사 일지』를 필두로 조직적 활동을 통해 역사를 증언한 정화운동 자료들을 살펴보았다. 각 자료집은 왜 어떠한 목적으로 어떻게 작업하고 정리했는지를 정리해 보았다. 각 자료집의 성격과 의의를 정리하여, 정화운동의 본질과 의의를 살펴 정화운동의 정신과 가치를 논의하였다. 이를 통해 정화운동 자료들의 특성을 정리해 낼 수 있을 것이다. 정화운동을 탐구하는 길잡이의 역할을 증언해 줄 수 있는 생생한 자료를 구축하기 위한 방향을 잡고자 하였다. 디지털 대전환의 시대에 불교기록유산 아카이브 구축의 사례를 통해 <정화운동 아카이브>를 위한 방향을 잡아 보고자 한다. 정화운동이 담긴 복합적 합의를 온전히 드러내기 위해 확장성과 디지털화를 전제로 복합적 활용을 지향할 것을 제안한다. ‘정화운동 온톨로지’를 설계하여 시맨틱 DB를 지향하여 온톨로지를 구축하고 AI 대전환을 위한 ‘한국불교 소버린 AI’의 핵심 자료 구축의 시발점이 될 <근현대불교 아카이브> 구축을 향한 방향을 살펴보고자 한다.
