1. I classified the function of caption from the viewpoint of information and made an analysis the character of program in connection with it.2. "Cause, Object, Effect" lie in the mechanism of caption-producing. And those enter the function of caption directly. The differentiation of the functions of caption is affected by them.3. Caption has three major function. The first is "compensation" for insufficiency part of conveyance of information, the second is "substitution" for the carrier of information, and the third is "addition" of information.4. Culture program is apt to use the function of compensation for insufficiency part of conveyance of information, for the purpose of explanation of rapid situation shift which is generated for offering several knowledges. 5. Report program and documentary program, basically, don't have a tendency to use caption. But they used to make practical application of caption as device of compensation for insufficiency part of conveyance of information in case a news source is not a skillful person. 6. Current events program will use the function of compensation for insufficiency part of conveyance of information and that of substitution for the carrier of information, for the rapid situation shift and persuasion the TV audience.7. Entertainment program has a tendency of making the most of the caption in order to amplify enjoyment. Therefore we can easily discover the caption with the function of addition of information.8. This approach and attitude for caption can develope into a tool for verification of that.
