This study examined the effects of a 12-session Animal-Assisted Therapy program utilizing horticultural activities on happiness and peer relationships in upper elementary school students. Participants (N=16) from a Community Child Center in G City were randomized into experimental (n=8) and control groups (n=8). Standardized scales measured variables pre- and post-intervention. Data were analyzed using SPSS 26.0 with Mann-Whitney U and Wilcoxon signed-rank tests. Results showed that the experimental group achieved statistically significant improvements in overall happiness and peer relationships, including all sub-scales. Conversely, the control group exhibited no significant changes. These findings demonstrate that the Animal-Assisted Therapy program utilizing horticultural activities effectively enhances happiness and peer relationships among upper elementary school students at Community Child Centers.

본 연구는 원예 활동을 활용한 동물교감치유 프로그램이 지역아동센터 초등학교 고학년의 행복감과 교우관계에 미치는 영향을 검증하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 G시 M지역아동센터 초등 고학년 16명을 실험집단(8명)과 통제집단(8명)으로 무작위 배치하여, 실험집단에 총 12회기의 통합 프로그램을 실시하였다. 행복감 척도와 교우관계 척도를 사용하여 사전·사후 검사를 진행하였으며, 자료 분석은 SPSS 26.0을 활용하여 동질성 검증은 Mann-Whitney U 검증을 시행하였고 사전･사후 차이 검증을 위하여 Wilcoxon signed ranks test을 실시하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 실험집단은 행복감과 교우관계의 전체 영역과 하위 요인에서 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 보였다. 반면, 통제집단은 행복감과 교우관계의 전체 영역과 하위 요인에서 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 보이지 않았다. 즉, 원예를 활용한 동물교감치유 프로그램은 지역아동센터 아동의 행복감과 교우관계를 증진시키는데 긍정적인 효과가 있었음을 알 수 있었다.
