This study aimed to examine the effects of parents’ perceptions of private education on family strength and to verify the mediating effect of parenting stress among parents with young children. An online survey was conducted with 376 parents raising children aged 3 to 5 years across South Korea. The findings revealed that parents’ perceptions of private education had a direct positive effect on family strength, while also increasing parenting stress, which in turn had a negative indirect effect on family strength. These results suggest that parents’ perceptions of private education reflect a complex characteristic that encompasses both positive functions and psychological burdens, rather than exerting a unidirectional influence on the family system. In addition, parenting stress was found to function as an important psychological mechanism explaining the relationship between parents’ perceptions of private education and family strength.

본 연구는 유아기 자녀를 둔 부모의 사교육 인식이 가족건강성에 미치는 영향과 양육스트레스의 매개효과를 검증하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 전국의 만 3～5세 유아를 양육하는 부모 376명을 대상으로 온라인 설문조사를 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 부모의 사교육 인식은 가족건강성에 직접적으로는 정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 동시에 양육스트레스를 증가시키고 이를 통해 가족건강성에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 간접효과 또한 유의한 것으로 확인되었다. 이러한 결과는 사교육에 대한 부모의 인식이 가족체계에 단선적으로 작용하기보다 긍정적 기능과 심리적 부담을 동시에 포함하는 복합적 특성을 지니고 있으며, 양육스트레스가 이를 설명하는 중요한 심리적 기제로 작용함을 시사한다.
