전력계통의 신재생에너지 용량 증대를 위한 GFM 인버터 활용에 따른 안정도 검토
Evaluation of Grid-Forming Inverter Operation for Enhancing Stability in Renewable Energy-Integrated Power Systems
Recently, the Korean power system has been shifting from large-scale thermal and hydroelectric power generation toward renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power. Conventional grid-following inverters operate by synchronizing with the frequency and voltage of the existing power grid. However, these inverters contribute to the reduction of system inertia, which leads to increased frequency fluctuations and voltage instability as the share of renewable energy rises. GFM inverters can autonomously establish reference frequency and voltage using a virtual synchronous machine (VSM) control mechanism, enabling stable operation even during grid disturbances or faults. This study verifies that GFM inverters can effectively maintain system frequency, voltage, and dynamic inertia under high renewable energy penetration conditions. The simulation and analysis results demonstrate that the application of GFM inverters enhances overall power system stability. Consequently, this study proposes the adoption of GFM inverters for large-scale renewable energy integration into the Korean power grid.

최근 국내 전력계통은 대규모 화력 및 수력발전에서 태양광 및 풍력 등과 같은 신재생에너지원으로 전환되고 있다. 그러나, 기존의 계통부하 추종 인버터는 전력계통의 주파수와 전압에 동기화하여 운영되고 있다. 계통부하 추정 인버터는 전력계통의 관성을 감소시키는 요인의 하나로서 신재생에너지의 비중이 증가함에 따라 주파수 변동성과 전압 불안정성이 증가되고 있다. GFM 인버터는 계통관성 감소 및 계통의 고장시 자체적으로 주파수와 전압을 기준계통으로 제공할 수 있도록 하는 가상 동기기계 장치를 이용하여 운영된다. 본 연구는 전력계통에서 신재생에너지의 비증이 증대에 따라 GFM 인버터가 계통 주파수 및 전압, 관성을 유지가 가능함을 검증하였다. 이 결과, GFM 인버터의 전력계통 운영은 신재생에너지의 계통에 따른 안정도를 향상이 가능함을 검토하였다. 본 연구에서는 대용량 신재생에너지의 계통의 투입에서는 GFM 인버터를 고려를 제안한다.
