Effective leadership is essential for the efficient functioning of a local church. We are currently living in an era of significant social, cultural, and philosophical change. In this changing world, church leaders must fundamentally change their mindset regarding the concept of leadership and the relationships they form with their congregations. Effective leadership has a positive correlation with followers’ satisfaction. In other words, the attitudes of followers toward the leader is an important indicator of examining leader effectiveness. Transformational leadership is an effective and biblically sound leadership theory that can contribute to the development of an effective leadership model for Korean church leaders. Examining how transformational leadership describes the ideal leader and how it develops such leadership competencies provides important clues for developing effective leadership in the church. Based on these premises, this study explores the core characteristics of transformational leadership and investigates the correlation between transformational leadership and biblical leadership. Furthermore, it explores the applicability of this leadership theory to the church field and offers three suggestions that can help develop transformational leadership for building a healthy church.
