한국과 중국의 생황(笙簧) 구조 비교 연구
A comparative study of the structural design of the saenghwang in Korea and China

- The saenghwang is a wind instrument with harmonic capabilities and holds a very important place in the musical development of both Korea and China. This study examines how the saenghwang developed in the two countries from 1950 to 2000, employing methods from philology and comparative studies. It provides a systematic analysis of the instrument's structure, range, and performance practices.The findings show that, with changes over time, the saenghwang in both Korea and China underwent improvements and came to be widely used across various musical genres. In China, the instrument was enhanced through the addition of keys and an increased number of pipes, which expanded its range and strengthened its low register and harmonic functions. These improved instruments came to play a crucial musical role in Chinese national orchestras, particularly in polyphonic textures and low-register parts.In Korea, the saenghwang was traditionally used in court music. After the introduction of the 24-pipe sheng from China, significant changes occurred in its structure and playing techniques. In addition, in both countries, the saenghwang evolved from ensemble use to include solo, chamber, and concerto forms, reflecting an expansion of its expressive capabilities and artistic functions.

- 생황은 화성적 기능을 구비한 관악기로 한국과 중국의 음악 발전에 매우 중요한 자리를 차지하고 있다. 본 연구는 1950 - 2000년 까지 한·중의 생황이 어떻게 발전을 하였는가에 대하여, 문헌학과 비교학의 연구 방법을 활용하여 생황의 구조, 음역, 연주 형태 등에 관하여 체계적으로 분석을 하였다. 연구 결과, 한·중의 생황은 시대의 변화에 따라 악기가 개량이 되었고 많은 장르의 음악 작품에서 보편적으로 사용이 되었다. 먼저, 중국의 생황은 key의 부착과 관의 증가를 통해 음역의 확장, 저음 부분과 화성적 기능을 더욱 강화하였다. 이러한 개량 악기들은 중국 민족 관현악단에서 폴리포닉 음악 및 저음 부분에서 음악적으로 아주 중요한 역할을 하게되었다. 한국의 생황은 궁중음악의 연주에서 사용이 되던 악기로서, 중국에서 24관 생황이 도입된 이후 악기의 구조와 연주법 등에서 많은 변화가 나타났다. 또한 양국의 생황은 합주 형태에서 독주, 중주 및 협주곡 형태로 많은 변화를 보였으며, 이 또한 음악적 표현력의 향상와 예술적 기능의 확장을 보여주는 것이다.
