This study examines the correlation between accompaniment music and dance movements in Hamgyeong-namdo Geommu, a traditional sword dance of the Five Northern Provinces of Korea. Due to discontinuities in transmission following the division of Korea, scholarly research on this heritage has been limited, particularly regarding the relationship between music and choreography. To address this gap, we apply four analytical frameworks-Time Structure, Spatial Structure, Movement Structure, and Energy and Expressive Structure-and conduct supplementary quantitative analysis using tempo and movement frequency. In addition, absolute indices standardized by the number of jangdan are introduced to ensure analytical objectivity. The accompaniment music exhibits a gradual acceleration structure from Neurin Heoteun Taryeong to Jung Heoteun Taryeong and Jajin Heoteun Taryeong, corresponding to a structural progression of condensation, accumulation, and expression in the dance movements. The tempo index and movement density reach their highest values in Jajin Heoteun Taryeong, while sword usage density remains relatively constant throughout. These findings demonstrate that Hamgyeong-namdo Geommu is an integrated art form in which music and dance are organically interconnected. We clarify the artistic uniqueness of Hamgyeong-namdo Geommu and expand methodological approaches in Korean traditional dance research through the combined use of qualitative and quantitative analyses.

이북5도 지역의 전통예술은 분단 이후 전승 환경의 단절로 인해 연구가 제한적으로 이루어져 왔다. 특히 함경남도 검무는 전승 계보와 춤사위에 대한 논의가 일부 진행되었으나, 반주음악과 춤사위 간의 관계를 체계적으로 규명한 연구는 부족한 실정이다. 이에 본 연구는 함경남도 검무 반주음악과 춤사위 간의 상관성을 규명하는 데 목적을 둔다. 연구 방법으로는 시간, 공간, 동작, 에너지 및 표현의 네 가지 분석 틀을 적용하고, 템포와 이동 빈도를 활용한 보조적 정량 분석을 실시하였다. 또한 장단 수를 기준으로 환산한 절대 지표를 도입하여 분석의 객관성을 확보하였다. 반주음악은 느린허튼타령, 중허튼타령, 자진허튼타령으로 이어지는 단계적 가속 구조를 보였으며, 이에 따라 춤사위는 응축-축적-표출의 전개 양상을 나타냈다. 특히 자진허튼타령에서 템포 지수와 이동 밀도가 가장 높게 나타났고, 칼 사용 밀도는 모든 장단에서 비교적 일정하게 유지되었다. 이는 함경남도 검무가 장단을 중심으로 음악과 춤이 긴밀하게 결합된 통합적 예술임을 보여준다. 본 연구는 반주음악과 춤사위 간의 상관성을 정성적, 정량적으로 제시함으로써 함경남도 검무의 예술적 특성과 독자성을 규명하고, 한국 전통무용 연구의 방법론 확장에 기여한다.
