The future operational environment is expanding into Multiple Domains, including land, sea, air, space, cyberspace, and the electromagnetic spectrum. Furthermore, as these domains overlap with both military and non-military spheres, centralized command alone cannot keep pace with the Operational Tempo of such Multi-Domain situations, nor can it ensure Convergence. Based on the premise that Mission Command is essential for the successful execution of Multi-Domain Operations, this study analyzed the Battle of Trafalgar and the history of the Russia-Ukraine War using the eight elements of Mission Command as a framework. The analysis confirmed that elements of Mission Command were inherent in both the British Navy's victory and the Ukrainian military's strong performance. Given the potential for Convergence to be facilitated by the interaction among the elements of Mission Command, this study presents implications for the future development of Multi-Domain Operations based on this finding: first, the need to expand research linking Multi-Domain Operations and Mission Command; second, the need for "integration of efforts" from the perspective of Mission Command; and third, the need for "trust-building" within joint forces. The conclusion concludes the study by presenting its limitations and directions for future research.

미래 작전환경은 지상·해상·공중·우주·사이버·전자기스펙트럼 등의 다영역으로 확장되고 있다. 또한 군사·비군사적의 영역까지 중첩되어 나타나므로 중앙집권적 지휘만으로는 이러한 다영역 상황의 작전속도(Tempo)를 따라가는 것은 물론 융합(Convergence)을 담보하기 어렵다. 본 연구는 다영역 작전의 성공적인 완수에 있어 임무형 지휘가 필수임을 전제로, 임무형 지휘 8개 요소를 분석틀로 트라팔가 해전과 러·우 전쟁 전사를 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 영국해군의 승리 및 우크라이나 군의 선전속에는 모두 임무형 지휘의 요소가 내재되어 있음이 확인되었다. 임무형 지휘 요소 간 상호작용에 따른 융합의 촉진 가능성이 예상되는 바, 이를 바탕으로 다영역 작전 발전방향에 대한 함의를 첫 번째, 다영역 작전과 임무형 지휘를 연계한 연구 확대의 필요성, 두 번째, 임무형 지휘 관점 "노력의 통합"의 필요성, 세 번째, 합동부대와 "신뢰 형성"의 필요성을 제시하였다. 결론에서는 연구의 한계와 향후 연구 방향을 제시하면서 연구를 마친다.
