Artificial intelligence (AI) and green innovation have emerged as strategic frontiers for corporate sustainable development, yet the mechanisms through which patient capital supports these uncertainty-intensive transitions remain underexplored. Using panel data from Chinese A-share listed firms over the period 2013–2024, this study empirically examines the impact of patient capital on corporate green innovation. The findings indicate that patient capital significantly promotes green innovation, underscoring its crucial governance value in long-term investments. Mechanism analyses reveal that AI adoption acts as a vital bridge, mediating the transformation of financial capital into green innovation outcomes. Furthermore, corporate social responsibility (CSR) positively moderates this AI-green innovation nexus, highlighting a critical boundary condition for maximizing digital dividends. This study emphasizes the governance function of patient capital in intelligent transformations and provides novel insights into the synergistic evolution of capital governance, AI adoption, and corporate sustainability.
