Purpose: This study aimed to compare and analyze chest compression methods performed by a single rescuer in children with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest according to changes in compression support sites. Methods: This study analyzed the accuracy, fatigue, and preference of 28 paramedic students at K University when performing 8 min of CPR using wrist- and elbow-wrapping chest compression methods. Results: The wrist-wrapped chest compression method had a deeper average chest compression depth (t=4.74, p<.001), whereas the elbow-wrapped chest compression method had more subjects performing the optimal chest compression depth range (40-50 mm) and a higher optimal relaxation rate (Z=-3.14, p=.002). Conclusion: The elbow- and wrist-wrapped chest compression techniques showed different strengths and limitations in each subcomponent of CPR quality. Additional replication studies with larger samples are needed to ensure the validity and generalizability of these results.
