Purpose: This qualitative phenomenological study explored the lived experiences of transfer students in paramedicine and examined the meaning and structure of university life after transfer. Methods: This study was approved by the Institutional Review Board of K University (KNU_IRB_2023-094). Data were collected from November 1 to November 30, 2023, through in-depth interviews with 12 transfer students. Open-ended questions focused on their experiences after the transfer and the meaning they attributed to the transfer into paramedicine. Data were analyzed using Colaizzi’s phenomenological method (1978). Results: Five major categories and seventeen subcategories were identified. The key themes were as follows: (1) a sense of alienation due to limited networking opportunities, (2) difficulties in academic adaptation, (3) the need for institutional support and guidance, (4) gaining a sense of belonging through participation in community activities, and (5) perceiving the transfer experience as a stepping stone toward becoming a paramedic. Although participants initially experienced academic burden, clinical stress, and social alienation, they gradually reconstructed their professional identities through peer collaboration, faculty support, and self-directed learning. Conclusion: Transfer students in paramedicine face multifaceted academic and social challenges. However, they ultimately perceive their experiences as a foundation for professional growth. These findings highlight the need for a structured orientation, academic support, and integrated educational planning to facilitate successful adaptation and professional development.
