This study aims to derive implications for the development of the venture ecosystem by analyzing factors determining the adoption of stock option plans in venture companies. While stock option plans were introduced for the policy purpose of fostering venture companies, there remain limitations in choosing other equity-based compensation systems. Despite this background, existing research on stock options has predominantly focused on listed companies. Using data from the Venture Business Survey, this study conducts a logistic multiple regression analysis. The results indicate that the ratio of controlling shareholders and the liquidity of venture companies have a negative effect on the adoption of stock option plans, whereas the ratio of highly educated employees and company size have a positive effect. In contrast, it was found that the growth potential and debt ratio of venture companies do not significantly affect the adoption of these plans. As the first empirical study on the factors determining the adoption of stock option plans specifically in venture companies, this study holds significant academic value. Furthermore, it provides practical implications for the advanced design and operation of stock option plans to enhance the growth potential of such firms.

본 연구는 벤처기업의 스톡옵션제도 도입에 관한 결정요인을 실증적으로 분석하여 벤처생태계의 발전방안에 대한 시사점을 얻는 것을 목적으로 한다. 자원제약과 인재 의존도가 높은 벤처기업의 스톡옵션제도는 벤처기업 육성을 위한 정책적 필요성에 의해 도입되었고 상장기업의 경우 다양한 주식 연계 보상제도를 선택할 수 있는 반면 벤처기업의 경우 스톡옵션외 다른 보상체계의 활용에 제한적인 구조에 놓여있는 것이 현실이다. 그러나 스톡옵션에 관한 종전의 연구는 상장기업을 중심으로 이루어져 왔고 벤처기업을 대상으로 한 연구는 부족하였다. 이에 본 연구는 벤처기업 정밀실태조사 자료를 활용하여 로지스틱 다중회귀분석을 실시하였다. 분석결과 벤처기업의 지배주주 지분율, 유동성은 스톡옵션제도 도입에 부정적 영향을 주는 한편, 고학력자 비율과 기업규모는 긍정적 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 반면, 벤처기업의 성장성과 부채비율은 스톡옵션제도 도입에 유의미한 영향을 주지 못하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 벤처기업의 스톡옵션제도 도입의 결정요인에 관한 최초의 실증연구라는 학술적 의미가 있으며 벤처기업의 성장잠재력을 제고하기 위한 스톡옵션제도의 발전적 설계와 운용을 위한 정책방향성에 시사점을 제공한다.
