This study empirically identified the factors determining the economic participation and labor market outcomes of multicultural youth aged 15 and older, based on the ‘2024 National Survey of Multicultural Families.’ It specifically focused on the influence of maternal socioeconomic resources during the labor market transition as the youth population matures. The findings reveal that economic participation is structured by the child’s human capital as well as maternal settlement levels and economic independence consciousness. Working hours proved sensitive to household income and maternal life-cycle characteristics, while wage levels exhibited differential outcomes based on the child’s level of career preparation and the mother’s birth nationality. These results suggest that supporting the economic independence of multicultural youth requires a tailored approach that distinguishes between entry and performance stages, accompanied by family-unit policy designs that include maternal empowerment.

본 연구의 목적은 ‘2024년 전국다문화가족실태조사’ 자료를 활용하여 15세 이상 다문화가족 자녀의 경제활동 참여 및 성과 구조를 실증적으로 분석하는 데 있다. 본 연구는 다문화가족 자녀 세대의 연령 구조가 상향 이동하고 노동시장 진입이 본격화되는상황에서 어머니의 사회경제적 자원이 자녀의 노동시장 이행 과정에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지에 주목하였다. 분석 결과 다문화 청소년의 경제활동 참여는 자녀 개인의 인적자본뿐만 아니라 어머니의 정착 수준과 경제적 자립 의식에 의해 구조화되는 것으로나타났다. 또한 다문화가정 자녀의 근로 시간은 가구 소득과 어머니의 생애주기적 특성에 민감하게 반응하였으며, 임금 수준은 자녀의 진로 준비 수준과 어머니의 출생 국적에 따라 차별적인 양상을 보였다. 이러한 결과는 다문화 청소년의 경제적 자립을 지원하기 위해서는 단순한 취업 지원을 넘어, 노동시장 진입 단계와 성과 형성 단계를 구분한 맞춤형 접근이 필요함을 시사한다.
