This study examined the relationship between physician-diagnosed depression status and toothbrushing after lunch by gender among older adults aged 65 years or older. Data from the 8th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2019-2021) were analyzed for 3,771 participants. No significant association was found between depression status and toothbrushing after lunch in either men or women. However, perceived stress level was associated with depression status in both genders, while toothache was significant in women and perceived oral health status was significant in men. These findings suggest that mental health and oral health in older adults should be understood beyond a single behavior such as toothbrushing after lunch.

본 연구는 65세 이상 노인을 대상으로 우울증 의사 진단 여부와 점심식사 후 칫솔질 여부를 성별에 따라 분 석하고자 하였다. 자료는 국민건강영양조사 제8기(2019-2021) 원시자료를 활용하였으며, 최종 분석대상자는 3,771명이 었다. 우울증은 의사 진단 여부를 기준으로 분류하였고, 점심식사 후 칫솔질 여부를 종속변수로 설정하였다. 분석 결과, 남성과 여성 모두에서 우울증 의사 진단 여부와 점심식사 후 칫솔질 여부 간의 유의한 관련성은 확인되지 않았다. 반면 평소 스트레스 인지 정도는 남녀 모두에서 우울증 여부와 관련되었고, 여성에서는 최근 1년간 치통 경험, 남성에서는 주관적 구강건강상태가 관련 특성으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 노인의 정신건강과 구강건강의 관계를 이해할 때 점심식사 후 칫솔질 여부뿐 아니라 스트레스, 통증 경험 및 주관적 구강건강상태를 함께 고려할 필요가 있음을 시사한다.
