In modern society, as aging progresses rapidly, medical institutions related to the diagnosis and treatment of spine and joints are rapidly increasing. Accordingly, the distribution of mobile C-arms, which are essential for the treatment of bones and joints, is increasing in various medical institutions. Unlike the C-arm equipment used in existing operating rooms, mobile C-arm equipment is known to have relatively low radiation doses. However, mobile C-arms cannot be used without ignoring the safety of radiation exposure. This is because they have the output and performance to produce a certain amount of radiation and are also fluoroscopy equipment that can view anatomical images in real time. In this study, we measured the radiation scatter of mobile C-arm equipment by distance and studied at what distance the effect of the scatter can be minimized. As a result, the average forward scatter was measured to be 1.8 μSv/hr within 2 m of the mobile C-arm, and a perceptible radiation scatter dose was measured up to 4 m. However, beyond 4 m, the scatter dose was measured to be insignificant. Therefore, to avoid radiation scatter exposure from the mobile C-arm, a distance of more than 4 m should be maintained.
