This study analyzes the formation and development of Donghak (Eastern Learning) to clarify its ideological characteristics and to provide a basis for reexamining the relationship between freedom and necessity within the discourse of the philosophy of history. Donghak, founded in 1860 by Suun Choe Je-u(1824- 1864), is a representative modern Korean indigenous religion, formed through the synthesis of human free will and passion with transcendent spiritual necessity. While previous research has tended to interpret the historical significance of Donghak within a limited framework such as the discourse on modernity, this study seeks to explore it from a contemporary and futureoriented perspective, namely the era of digital transformation. The research examines Donghak’s views on divinity, practice, and women, and presents the principle of integrating the Three Teachings(Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism). The findings suggest that Donghak’s core ideas are not only central elements of Korea’s modernity discourse but also remain relevant in the digital transformation era. Furthermore, the logic of the Three Teachings integration offers a model of convergence, while its historical significance points to an ecological worldview and sustainable values.

본 연구는 동학의 성립과 전개를 분석하여 그 사상적 특징을 규명하고, 역사철학적 논의 속에서 자유와 필연성의 관계를 재검토하는 실마 리를 제공하고자 한다. 동학은 인간의 자유 의지와 열정, 그리고 이를 초월하는 정신적 필연성이 종합되어 형성된 한국 근대의 대표적 민족 종교이다. 선행연구에서는 동학의 역사적 의의를 근대성 담론 등으로 제한적으로 이해하고 있으나 본 연구에서는 디지털 대전환시대라는 현 대적이며 미래지향적인 관점에서 모색하고자 하였다. 연구 내용으로는 먼저 동학의 신관, 실천관, 여성관 등을 제시하고 유불선 삼교 통합의 원리를 제시하였다. 연구 결과로는 동학의 주요사상이 한국의 근대성 담론의 주요 요소일 뿐만 아니라 디지털 대전환시대에도 필요한 사상 임을 제시하였고 삼교 통합의 논리로서 융합적 방법을, 역사적 의의로 는 생태적 세계관과 지속가능한 가치를 제시하였다.
