The Impact of Cloud Service Adoption on Firm Performance : The Mediating Roles of Digital Capability and Organizational Agility
This study empirically investigates the impact of cloud service adoption on firm performance and examines the mediating roles of digital capability and organizational agility. While prior studies have primarily focused on adoption factors (e.g., relative advantage, complexity, organizational readiness) or on direct adoption-performance relationships, only few studies have provided an integrated analysis of how adoption strengthens internal capabilities and translates into performance outcomes. Drawing on the Technology-Organization- Environment (TOE) framework and the Dynamic Capability View (DCV), this study conducted a survey of 464 employees from firms in China and analyzed the data using PLS-SEM. The results show that relative advantage, top management support, and competitive pressure have significant positive effects on both digital capability and organizational agility, whereas complexity negatively influences organizational agility, and organizational readiness and regulatory support are not significant. Moreover, both digital capability and organizational agility positively influence firm performance, with organizational agility exhibiting a stronger effect. By clarifying the adoption-capability-performance mechanism, this study contributes to the extension of theoretical insights and offers practical implications for firms formulating digital transformation strategies.
