Funeral culture in Korea has rapidly shifted from family-based rituals to institutionalized services within medical facilities. Accordingly, funeral homes attached to provincial medical centers have evolved into complex service facilities that require both publicness and operational efficiency. This study analyzes the area composition of funeral homes in seven provincial medical centers constructed after the 2000s. The spaces were reclassified into four zones: Memorial &Reception, Mortuary &Funeral, Management &Support, and Common zones. Quantitative comparisons of area ratios were conducted. The results show that the average gross floor area is 1,354㎡ and the Memorial &Reception zone occupies the largest proportion (65.7%). Larger facilities tend to emphasize reception functions, whereas smaller facilities prioritize operational efficiency. The findings provide practical planning criteria for future funeral home design in public medical centers.

현대 사회의 도시화와 가족 구조의 변화로 장례 문화는 가정 중심 의례에서 병원 및 전문시설 중심의 사 회적 의례로 전환되었다. 이에 따라 장례식장은 단순한 추모 공간을 넘어 유족의 체류, 접객, 편의, 행정지원 기능 을 포함하는 복합 서비스 시설로 변화하고 있다. 특히 지방의료원 장례식장은 지역 공공의료 거점시설로서 장례 서비스의 공공성과 효율성을 동시에 확보해야 하는 중요한 건축 유형이다. 본 연구는 2000년대 이후 건립된 7개 지방의료원 장례식장을 대상으로 도면과 스페이스 프로그램을 수집·분석하여 공간을 분향 및 접객 구역, 안치 및 영결 구역, 관리 및 지원 구역, 공용 구역의 4개 기능 구역으로 재분류하고, 면적 및 구성비 특성을 정량적으로 비 교하였다. 분석 결과 장례식장의 평균 연면적은 1,354㎡이며, 분향 및 접객 구역이 평균 65.7%로 가장 높은 비중 을 차지하였다. 또한 대규모 시설은 접객 기능 중심, 소규모 시설은 운영 효율 중심의 공간 배분 특성을 보였다. 본 연구는 지방의료원 장례식장 설계를 위한 합리적 면적 산정 기준과 계획 지표를 제시하는 데 의의가 있다.
