This study investigated the mediating effect of social support in the relationship between hopeful thinking and interpersonal competence among college students. To verify this, a survey was administered to 480 college students enrolled at a university in S-si, Gyeonggi-do, and a total of 463 copies were used in the final analysis. The research findings can be summarized as follows. First, a significant positive relationship was observed between hopeful thinking, social support, and interpersonal competence. Second, the study revealed that hopeful thinking and social support contributed positively to the interpersonal competence of college students. Third, social support partially mediated the relationship between college students’ hopeful thinking and interpersonal competence. Based on these results, the present study indicates the need for strategies to enhance college students’ perceived hopeful thinking and social support in order to improve interpersonal competence. Finally, on the basis of the study’s findings, the need for follow-up research and the significance and implications of this study were presented.

본 연구는 대학생의 희망적 사고와 대인관계유능성의 관계에서 사회적지지의 매개효과를 알아보고자 하 였다. 이를 검증하기 위해 경기도 S시에 위치한 대학교에 재학 중인 480명의 대학생을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시 하고 총 463부를 최종 분석에 사용하였다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 희망적 사고, 사회적지지, 대인관계유 능성 간에 유의미한 정적 상관이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 대학생의 희망적 사고와 사회적지지는 대인관계유 능성에 정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 대학생의 희망적 사고와 대인관계유능성의 관계에서 사회적 지지는 부분매개역할을 하는 것으로 확인되었다. 이를 바탕으로 본 연구는 대인관계유능성의 향상을 위해서는 대 학생이 지각하는 희망적 사고와 사회적지지를 높이는 방안과 필요함을 시사한다. 끝으로 본 연구 결과를 바탕으로 후속 연구의 필요성과 본 연구의 의의 및 시사점을 제시하였다.

INCA was registered as an incorporated association under the Ministry of Information and Communications. The main purpose of the organization is to improve our society by achieving the highest capability possible in next generation convergence technology.
