This study analyzed the content of the memorial message texts voluntarily written by citizens to find out the general public's memory of the Itaewon Halloween Day disaster victims. To do this, keyword frequency analysis, semantic network analysis, and subgroup analysis methods were used. Ritualistic mourning words such as memorial, deceased, sorry, happy, heart, and prayer were used a lot, and these words played an important role in the entire network. The other was a mode of memorialization that specifically emphasized the spatial location of Itaewon and the nature of the incident as a social tragedy. Meanwhile, the subgroup analysis showed that people's memorial memories were categorized into 'general memorialization of the victims', 'prayers for the victims', 'personal grief and responsibility as a contemporary citizen', 'adult feelings of sorry for the young', and 'wishes for the afterlife'. While citizens' memorialization of the victims of the Itaewon tragedy was centered on ritualistic, socially accepted, and universal memorial rituals, the ethical and institutional responsibilities of social groups, such as identifying and punishing responsibility and establishing safety measures, were peripheral.

이 연구는 이태원 참사 희생자에 대한 일반 시민들의 추모 기억을 알아보기 위해 시민들이 자발적으로 작성한 추모 메시지를 분석했다. 이를 위해 핵심어 빈도분석과 의미 네트워크 분석, 그리고 하위집단 분석 방법을 사용했다. 핵심어 및 의미 네트워크 분석결과, 명복, 고인, 미안, 행복, 마음, 기도 등 의례적인 추모 단어가 많이 사용되었으며, 이들 단어가 전체 네트워크에서 중요한 역할을 했다. 또한, 이태원이라는 공간적 장소와 사회적 참사라는 사고의 속성을 특별히 강조하는 추모 기억방식을 확인할 수 있었다. 한편, 하위집단 분석에서는 시민들의 추모 내용이 ‘참사 희생자에 대한 일반적 추모’, ‘희생자에 대한 기도’ ,‘동시대 시민으로서 느끼는 개인적 애도와 책임’, ‘젊은이에게 미안한 어른의 마음’, ‘내세 염원’등으로 구분되어 나타났다. 이태원 참사 희생자에 대한 시민들의 추모는 사회적으로 통용되는 의례적이고, 보편적인 추모 의식 이 중심을 이루었지만, 책임규명 및 처벌, 안전대책 수립 등과 같은 사회 집단의 윤리적, 제도적 책임에 대한 내용은 주변부적으로 나타났다.
