The purpose of this study is to explore the career selection process of multicultural youth outside of school and to find institutional and social measures to support their career preparation. To this end, four multicultural youth outside of school were selected as participants in the study, and group in-depth and individual interviews were conducted. Based on the collected data, in-case analysis and inter-case analysis were conducted in parallel, and through this, the contextual understanding of the career selection process of individual case participants and major issues were identified, and topics that are common in all cases were derived. As a result of the study, a total of five main topics were derived. 1) school maladjustment due to lack of emotional support and low self-esteem from parents, 2) disconnection of friendship and social isolation, 3) experience of career barriers due to lack of career information and academic background, 4) self-directed efforts to find resources despite lack of support from parents, and 5) seeking a career path suitable for interest and aptitude and demonstrating resilience. Based on these findings, it was suggested that social welfare support measures such as providing customized career counseling and mentoring, developing career education programs for multicultural youth, strengthening the support system of parents and local communities, and expanding access to career information are needed to alleviate structural difficulties experienced by multicultural youth outside of school.

본 연구는 학교 밖 다문화 청소년의 진로선택 과정을 탐색하고, 이들의 진로준비를 지원하기 위한 제도적·사회적 방안을 모색하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 학교 밖 다 문화 청소년 4명을 연구 참여자로 선정하여 집단 심층면접과 개별면접을 실시하였다. 수집된 자료를 바탕으로 사례 내 분석과 사례 간 분석을 병행하였으며, 이를 통해 개별 사례자의 진로선택 과정에 대한 맥락적 이해와 주요 이슈를 파악하고, 전체 사례에서 공통적으로 나타나는 주제를 도출하였다. 연구 결과, 총 5개의 주요 주제가 도출되었다. 1) 부모로부터의 정서적 지지 부족과 낮은 자존감으로 인한 학교 부적응, 2) 친구 관계의 단절과 사회적 고립, 3) 진로정보 부족과 학력 한계로 인한 진로장벽 경험, 4) 부모의 지원 부족 속에서도 자원을 찾아가 려는 자기주도적 노력, 5) 흥미와 적성에 맞는 진로를 모색하며 회복력을 발휘하는 과 정으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구 결과를 바탕으로, 학교 밖 다문화 청소년들이 진로탐색과 준비 과정에 서 겪는 구조적 어려움을 완화하기 위해서는 맞춤형 진로상담 및 멘토링 제공, 다문화 청소년을 위한 진로교육 프로그램 개발, 부모 및 지역사회의 지지체계 강화, 진로정보 접근성 확대 등의 사회복지적 지원 방안이 필요함을 제안하였다.
