This study aimed to evaluate the effects of a major-intensive overseas program on nursing students’ cultural nursing competence and grit using a pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design. The participants were 45 third-year nursing students from K University who took part in a two-week major-intensive overseas program focused on practice at major health institutions and nursing colleges in the United States. The program included simulation practice, visits to healthcare institutions, meetings with local nurses, and English education. The results showed that cultural nursing competence significantly increased from a pretest mean of 93.04±11.26 to a posttest mean of 109.24±3.79 (t = -7.707, p < .001). While the overall grit score did not significantly change, a significant improvement of .82±2.12 was observed in the perseverance subscale (t = -2.596, p = .013). Furthermore, cultural nursing competence and grit were positively correlated (r = .779, p < .001), indicating a meaningful association between these variables. These findings suggest that a major-intensive overseas program can serve as an effective educational strategy for enhancing cultural understanding, caring competence, and promoting continuous self-growth among nursing students in the context of an increasingly multicultural society and the globalization of nursing.

본 연구는 전공밀착형 해외프로그램이 간호대학생의 문화간호역량과 그릿 미치는 영향을 확인하고자 단일군 전후 유사실험설계를 적용하였다. 연구대상은 K대학교 간호학과 3학년 학생 45명으로, 2주간 미국 주요 보건기관과 간호대학을 중심으로 한 실무 중심 프로그램에 참여하였다. 프로그램은 시뮬레이션 실습, 보건기관 견학, 현지 간호사 와의 만남, 영어교육 등으로 구성되었다. 연구결과, 문화간호역량은 사전 93.04±11.26점 대비 사후 109.24±3.79점에 통계적으로 유의하게 향상되었으며(t=-7.707, p=.000), 그릿의 경우 전체 점수는 유의한 차이를 보이지 않았으나, 하 위요인인 끈기 항목에서 .82±2.12점 유의한 증가가 확인되었다(t=-2.596, p=.013). 또한, 문화간호역량과 그릿 간에는 유의한 정적 상관관계(r=.779, p<.001)가 나타나, 문화간호역량과 그릿이 연관됨을 보여주었다. 본 연구는 다문화 사 회와 간호의 국제화가 가속화되는 현실속에서, 해외프로그램이 문화이해능력과 돌봄역량을 효과적으로 강화하고 지속 적인 자기성장을 유도하는 교육적 전략이 될 수 있음을 시사한다.
