This study is a qualitative study to explore the school life of adult learners attending the nursing department of community college in a region. The study participants were 15 adult learners in the fourth grade of the nursing department in J. city, and the study was conducted through two focus groups. Data were analyzed using Colaizzi's phenomenological method. As a result of the analysis, adult learners' school life experiences were classified into 12 theme clusters and 4 categories. The four categories were derived as ‘Challenge for a professional job’, ‘Improving self-efficacy with a new sense of belonging’, ‘Frustration to feel difference with the current students’ and ‘The need for supporting resources and moving forward while acknowledging limitations’. Based on the results of this study, it was suggested that as the number of adult learners in the admissions process increases, continuous policy and institutional support should be provided to help them adapt well to school life.

본 연구는 일 지역 전문대학 간호학과에 재학 중인 성인학습자의 학교생활은 어떠한지를 탐색하기 위한 질적 연구이다. 연구 참여자는 J시 소재 전문대학 간호학과 4학년 성인 학습자 15명이었으며, 2개의 포커스그룹을 통해 진 행되었다. 자료 분석은 Colaizzi의 현상학적 연구 방법으로 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 성인학습자의 학교생활 경험은 12 개의 주제 모음과 4개의 범주로 분류되었다. 4개의 범주는 ‘전문직을 향한 도전’, ‘새로운 소속감으로 자기 효능감 증 진’, ‘현역들과의 차이를 느끼며 좌절감’, ‘지지자원의 필요성과 한계를 인정하며 나아감’으로 도출되었다. 본 연구 결 과를 바탕으로 성인학습자의 입학 전형이 늘어남에 따라 이들이 학교생활에 잘 적응할 수 있도록 정책적·제도적 지 원이 지속되어야 함을 제언하였다.
