With the shift toward a contactless society due to COVID-19 and the increasing demand for extended reality (XR)-based content, mixed reality (MR) has gained attention as a technology that maximizes interaction between the real and virtual worlds. In South Korea, empirical studies on mixed reality have primarily focused on single cases or specific domains, indicating a need for diversified and integrated research approaches for future development. This study aims to analyze research trends related to mixed reality content in Korea and suggest future research directions. To achieve this, 88 MR-related academic papers published over the past decade (2015–2024) and listed in the RISS database were collected and analyzed for quantitative trends and distribution. The results show a continuous increase in the volume of MR research, with empirical studies surpassing theoretical studies since 2020. The most common research topics were content creation, and the most actively explored application area was the field of arts and culture. As directions for future research and development, the study proposes the establishment of user experience theory, the development of production guidelines and tools, the expansion of application areas, the enhancement of trend analysis, and the construction of a lifecycle-based policy design and convergence support system. This study is meaningful in that it provides foundational data for future research on mixed reality in Korea.

코로나19로 인한 비대면 사회로의 전환과 함께 확장현실 기반 콘텐츠 수요가 증가하면서 혼합현실은 현실과 가상의 상호작용을 극대화하는 기술로 주목받았다. 국내에서는 혼합현실에 대한 단일 사례나 영역에 대한 실증연구가 주로 이루어졌으며, 향후 발전을 위해 연구의 다변화와 통합적 접근이 필요한 상황이다. 본 연구는 국내 혼합현실 콘 텐츠와 관련된 연구 동향을 분석하고 향후 연구 방향을 제시하는 데에 목적이 있다. 이를 위해, 최근 10년간 (2015~2024) RISS에 수록된 혼합현실 콘텐츠 관련 논문 88편을 수집하여 양적 추이와 비중을 분석하였다. 그 결과, 혼합현실 연구량은 지속해서 증가하고 있으며, 2020년 이후부터 실증연구가 이론연구보다 더 많이 진행되었고, 연구 주제는 콘텐츠 제작, 활용 분야로는 문화예술 분야에서 가장 많이 다뤄진 것으로 나타났다. 향후 연구 및 발전 방향으 로 사용자 경험 이론 정립, 제작 가이드 및 도구 개발, 활용 분야 확산, 동향 연구 강화, 전주기적 정책 설계·융합 지 원체계 구축을 제시하였다. 본 연구는 국내 혼합현실 연구를 위한 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있다는 점에서 의의가 있다.
