Digital technologies, including generative AI, can contribute to educational disparities depending on individuals' experience and proficiency in using them. In particular, eup and myeon (township-level) areas may face exacerbated regional educational inequalities due to the lack of opportunities to engage with advanced technologies like generative AI. Therefore, this study analyzed the differences in understanding and utilization of generative AI among students in eup and myeon areas based on various background variables. The results indicated that middle school students had a lower understanding of generative AI compared to high school students, while no significant differences were found across other background variables. Regarding the ability to utilize generative AI, no statistically significant differences were observed across background variables. However, a detailed analysis of individual survey items revealed that female students had lower levels of understanding and utilization than male students, middle school students scored lower than high school students, students in eup areas showed lower proficiency than those in myeon areas, and students in smaller classes or with less parental interest in AI education also exhibited lower understanding and utilization levels.

생성형 AI를 비롯한 디지털 기술은 활용 경험이나 활용 능력에 따라 교육 격차를 발생시킬 수 있다. 특히 읍면지 역은 생성형 AI와 같은 첨단 기술을 활용할 수 있는 기회가 제공되지 않아 지역 간 교육격차를 심화시킬 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 읍면 지역 학생들의 생성형 AI에 대한 이해도와 활용 능력을 배경변인별 차이가 어떠한지를 분 석하였다. 그 결과, 생성형 AI의 이해도는 중학생이 고등학생보다 낮은 것으로 나타났고, 그 외에는 배경변인별 차이 가 없었다. 생성형 AI의 활용 능력은 배경변인별로 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 없었다. 다만, 세부 문항을 살펴본 결 과, 생성형 AI의 이해도와 활용도에서 전반적으로 남학생보다는 여학생이 낮고, 중학생이 낮으며, 읍지역 학생들이 낮고, 학급 규모가 작고, 부모의 관심도가 낮을수록 낮게 나타났다.
