[Purpose] The purpose of this study is to examine the aesthetic structure inherent in the golf swing, based on Plato's Theory of Idea and Aristotle's Theories of Mimesis and Catharsis. [Method] A literature review was conducted, focusing on philosophy-related books and prior research. [Result] The aesthetic consideration of golf was attempted by applying Aristotle (384 BC – 322)'s `mimesis theory' which means imitation and representation, and the prototype of a swing that is ideal or beautiful in a golf swing, to Plato's `idea theory'. As such, Aristotle and Plato's theory of aesthetics provides a valuable theoretical basis for examining the beauty of golf swings that have been unconsciously overlooked. [Conclusion] The beauty of golf comes from the player's excellent technical perfection. This technical beauty can be described from an aesthetic point of view as an ideal swing form (idea) and an imitation of the shot (mimesis). The shot reached by targeting the target point without error and soft rotation shows the essence of technical imitation embodied in the body through long accumulated training, revealing the dynamic and harmonious beauty of golf. In addition, golf comes as an intense aesthetic impression through the appearance of a player who perfectly demonstrates his skills through the aesthetic experience of catharsis felt by the audience.

[목적] 본 연구의 목적은 플라톤의 이데아 이론과 아리스토텔레스의 미메시스와 카타르시스 이론에 근거하여 골프 스윙이 갖는 미학적 구조를 고찰하는 것이다. [방법] 철학 관련 서적과 선행연구를 중심으로 한 문헌 연구를 진행하 였다. [결과] 모방이자 재현을 뜻하는 아리스토텔레스(Aristotle, BC 384 – BC 322)의 ‘미메시스(mimesis) 이론’과 골프 스윙에서 이상적이거나 아름다움이 있는 스윙의 원형을 플라톤(Plato, BC 427~ BC 347)이 이야기하는 ‘이데아(idea)이 론’에 적용하여 골프의 미학적 고찰을 시도하였다. 이처럼 아리스토텔레스와 플라톤의 미학 이론은 그동안 무의식적으 로 지나치던 골프 스윙의 아름다움을 고찰하는 귀중한 이론적 토대를 제공해 준다. [결론] 골프의 아름다움은 선수의 탁월한 기술적 완성도에서 비롯한다. 이 기술적 아름다움은 미학적 관점에서 이상적인 스윙 형태(이데아)와 샷의 모 방(미메시스)으로 설명할 수 있다. 부드러운 회전과 목표 지점을 오차 없이 겨냥하여 도달한 샷은 오랜 시간 축적된 훈련을 통해 몸에 체화된 기술적 모방의 정수를 보여주며, 이는 골프의 역동적이면서도 조화로운 아름다움을 드러낸 다. 또한 골프는 관중이 느끼는 카타르시스라는 미적 경험을 통해 완벽하게 기술을 발휘하는 선수의 모습을 통해 강 렬한 미학적 감동으로 다가온다.
