The purpose of this study was to find practical and policy discussion points necessary for the effective support of female drug addicts through their experiences in entering and exiting correctional facilities. To this end, three women drug addicts were selected as participants in this study, and the data collected through in-depth interviews were analyzed using the qualitative case study method proposed by Stake. As a result of the study, nine themes were identified as follows: “Being placed in environments prone to exposure”, “Initiating and falling into drug use due to surrounding men”, “Struggling between the desire to quit and the urge to continue”, “Becoming a slave to drugs while fearing imprisonment”, “Being cut off from the world and confined behind bars”, “Becoming more deeply involved in drug-related crimes during incarceration than before imprisonment”, “Unable to live an ordinary life even after release”, “Barely enduring life in a Korean society barren of recovery resources” and “Starting to recognize the resourses needed for recovery.” Based on these results, the study proposes several practical and policy interventions to support addiction treatment and rehabilitation for female drug addicts.

본 연구는 여성 마약류 교정시설 입·출소 경험을 탐색하여 여성 마약류 중독자에게 필요 한 실천적, 정책적 논의점을 찾는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 여성 마약류 중독자 3명을 심층 면담했으며, 그 자료를 Stake(1995)의 질적 사례연구 방법에 기반하여 분석하였다. 여성 마약류 중독자의 교정시설 입·출소 경험을 분석한 결과, 9개의 주제, ‘노출되기 쉬 운 환경에 놓임’, ‘주변 남자들로 인해 시작하고 빠져듦’, ‘끊고 싶지만 동시에 하고 싶은 두 마음 사이에서 갈등함’, ‘마약류의 노예가 되어 끌려다니면서도 투옥되는 것이 두려움’, ‘세상 과 단절되어 철장 안에 붙들림’, ‘징역살이 동안 투옥 전보다 마약류 범죄에 더 깊게 연루됨’, ‘출소 후에도 평범한 삶을 누리지 못함’, ‘회복의 불모지인 한국 사회에서 생으로 버팀’, ‘회복 에 필요한 자원들이 보이기 시작함’로 도출되었다. 위와 같은 연구 결과를 토대로 여성 마약류 중독자의 회복을 지원할 정책적 및 실천적 개 입의 방안을 제안하였다.
