Analysis of Factors Affecting Life Quality among Obese Adults - Focus on Mediation Effect of Physical Activity and GAD -
Objectives: This study examined the factors influencing the quality of life (QoL) of obese adults, with emphasis on the mediating roles of physical activity and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). Methods: Data were obtained from the 9th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, including 2,066 obese adults. Structural equation modeling and bootstrapping were performed to analyze the relationships among health recognition, physical activity, GAD, and QoL. Results: Health recognition showed a significant negative direct effect on QoL (estimate = -0.135, p < 0.001). However, through the multiple mediation of physical activity and GAD (estimate = 0.418, p < 0.01), the total effect became positive (estimate = 0.283, p < 0.01). This finding suggests a complete mediation pathway in which health recognition enhances physical activity, thus subsequently reducing GAD and ultimately improving QoL. Conclusions: Health recognition affects QoL positively through behavioral and psychological pathways. Integrated strategies promoting health literacy, physical activity, and mental-health support are necessitated to improve the QoL of obese adults.
