The purpose of this study is to explore diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for scoliosis. Scoliosis is a condition characterized by structural deformities of the spine that occur in three planes of motion, and it can be categorized as congenital or idiopathic. Scoliosis is classified into primary and secondary curves in the coronal plane, and it is further categorized based on the size of the curve into cervical, thoracic, and lumbar scoliosis. Treatment for scoliosis has evolved from Hippocrates' traction therapy, to the development of upper limb orthoses by Ambroise Paré in the 16th century, and the introduction of the Milwaukee brace in 1946. Bracing is generally effective when the curve is less than 45 degrees. Subsequently, the Wilmington brace, Boston brace, and night-time braces such as the Charleston and Providence braces were developed. Surgical treatment became the standard following the introduction of posterior spinal fusion by Paul Harrington in the 1950s. Recently, conservative treatments such as acupuncture, physical therapy, and chiropractic care have also been reported as effective, especially for patients in their growth phase.

본 연구는 척추측만증의 진단 및 치료적 접근법을 문헌고찰을 통해 알아보고자 한다. 척추측만증에 대한 척 추측만증은 척추의 구조적 변형이 세 개의 운동 평면에서 발생하는 질환으로, 선천성 및 특발성으로 구분된다. 척추측 만증은 이마면에서 1차 및 2차 곡선으로 분류되며, 곡선의 크기에 따라 목, 등, 허리측만증으로 구분 된다. 척추측만 증 치료는 히포크라테스의 견인 요법을 시작으로, 16세기 암브로즈 파레의 상지 보조기 개발, 1946년 밀워키 브레이 스 도입으로 발전했다. 보조기는 일반적으로 척추 곡선이 45도 미만일 때 효과적이다. 이후 윌밍턴 보조기와 보스턴 보조기, 야간 사용 보조기인 찰스턴 및 프로비던스 보조기가 개발되었다. 수술적 치료는 1950년대 폴 해링턴의 후방 척추 융합술 도입 이후 표준 치료법으로 적용되고 최근에는 성장기 환자에 있어서 침치료, 물리치료, 카이로프락틱 등 의 보존적 치료도 효과적이라고 보고되고 있다.
