This study aimed to explore the developmental experiences that influenced drug addiction among substance users. This study conducted a qualitative meta-analysis of 49 cases from 13 domestic research papers published between 2013 and 2024, focusing on addiction and recovery experiences of drug addicts in South Korea. From these cases, 288 summary statements related to developmental experiences were extracted, which were then condensed into 20 descriptive, themes through coding procedures. These descriptive themes were analyzed for comprehensive themes, and core themes, yielding the following key findings. First, 11 descriptive themes emerged regarding childhood experiences of drug addicts. The comprehensive themes identified were 'parental addiction issues,' 'abuse and neglect,' 'attachment trauma,' and 'severe poverty,' with the core theme being 'emotional hunger and deprivation.' Second, 9 descriptive themes were identified concerning adolescent experiences. The comprehensive themes were 'school maladjustment,' 'deviant behavior,' and 'substance use,' with the core theme being 'struggle to fill emotional hunger and deprivation.' Based on these findings, the study discusses practical and policy recommendations for effective prevention and therapeutic intervention in drug addiction.

본 연구는 마약중독자의 중독에 영향을 미친 성장기 경험을 탐색하기 위한 목 적으로 수행되었다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 2013년부터 2024년까지 국내에서 출판된 마약중독과 회복경험에 관한 질적연구 논문 13편의 49개 사례에 나타난 마약중독자의 성장기 경험에 대한 질적 메타분석을 수행하였다. 분석을 위해 49 개 사례에서 성장기 경험과 관련된 288개 축약진술문을 추출하였으며, 코딩절차 에 따라 기술적 주제 20개를 도출하였다. 20개 기술적 주제에 대해 종합적 주제, 핵심적 주제를 분석하였으며 이에 대한 주요 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 마 약중독자의 아동기 경험의 기술적 주제는 총 11개로 도출되었다. 이에 대한 종합 적 주제는 ‘부모의 중독문제’, ‘학대와 방임’, ‘애착 외상’, ‘극심한 빈곤’이며, 핵심 주제는 ‘정서적 허기와 결핍’으로 분석되었다. 둘째, 마약중독자의 청소년기 경험의 기술적 주제는 9개로 도출되었다. 이에 대한 종합적 주제는 ‘학교 부적응’, ‘일 탈행동’, ‘물질사용’이며, 핵심주제는 ‘정서적 허기와 결핍을 메우기 위한 투쟁’으 로 분석되었다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 마약중독의 효과적인 예방 및 치료적 개입을 위한 실천적, 정책적 제언을 논의하였다.
