This study is a qualitative study on the experiences of parents caring for children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes. A total of 8 study participants were parents who took care of children and adolescents diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in J and joined ‘Korean Society of Type 1 diabetes’, a self-help group for type 1 diabetes. The data collection period was from June 24 to August 9, 2024, and in-depth interviews were conducted with research participants through one-on-one individual meetings. The interview time was 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours, and the number of interviews was 1 to 2 times. As a result of this study, the experiences of parents caring for children and adolescents diagnosed with type 1 diabetes were derived into 5 thematic categories and 11 subcategories. Among these, the five topic categories were ‘Type 1 diabetes that I don’t want to accept’, ‘Difficulty and fear of managing type 1 diabetes’, ‘Managing blood sugar that makes daily life difficult’, ‘Hide my emotions’, and ‘My own growth’. Accordingly, when caring for children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes, it is necessary to have parents participate and interact in the treatment plan and to provide social and national attention to the care plan.

본 연구는 1형 당뇨병 소아청소년을 돌보는 부모 경험에 대한 질적 연구이다. 연구참여자는 J소재에서 1형 당뇨병을 진단받은 소아청소년을 돌보며 1형 당뇨병의 자조 모임인 ‘슈거트리’에 가입한 부모들로 총 8명이었다. 자료수집 기간은 2024년 6 월 24일부터 8월 9일까지였으며 연구참여자를 일대일 개별적 만남을 통해 심층 면담을 시행하였다. 면담의 시간은 1시간 30분에서 2시간이었으며 면담 횟수는 1~2회였다. 본 연구 결과 1형 당뇨병 진단받은 소아청소년을 돌보는 부모들에 대한 경험은 5개의 주제 범주와 11개 하위범주를 도출하였다. 이 중 5개의 주제 범주는 ‘받아들이고 싶지 않은 1형 당뇨병’, ‘1형 당뇨병 관리의 어려움과 두려움’, ‘일상생활이 어려운 혈당 관리’, ‘나의 감정 숨기기’, ‘스스로의 성장’이였다. 소아청소년 1형 당뇨병이 있는 대상자를 돌봄에 있어 부모를 치료계획에 참여하여 상호작용을 하도록 하고 돌봄 계획에 사회적·국가적 관심이 필요할 것이다.
