This study comparatively analyzes the imagery of alcohol in classical Korean and Chinese poetry, focusing on the works of Lee Gyu-bo and Tao Yuanming, to examine the symbolic and cultural meanings of alcohol in their poems. Both poets used alcohol as a significant medium in their creative processes, expressing their life philosophies and emotions through it. In Tao Yuanming's poems, alcohol serves as a medium for seeking tranquility, transcendence, and self-consolation, reflecting his longing for nature and rural life and his critical perspective on society. Conversely, Lee Gyu-bo's poems are characterized by a romantic and bold tone, using alcohol to pursue a free and ideal life and to forget the hardships and pains of reality. This study analyzes Lee Gyu-bo and Tao Yuanming's poems in terms of their perception of alcohol, the natural elegance embedded in alcohol, and the pursuit of success and fame (ipsinyangmyeong) associated with alcohol. Both poets used alcohol to express their ideals and free spirit, with the imagery of alcohol in their poems reflecting the social and cultural backgrounds of their times. Through this comparative study, we can understand the cultural differences and commonalities in classical Korean and Chinese poetry and confirm the significant symbolic role of alcohol in poetry.

이 연구는 한국과 중국의 고전시가에서 나타난 술 이미지를 비교 분석하여 이규보와 도연명 의 시가에서 술이 가지는 상징성과 문화적 의미를 고찰하였다. 이규보와 도연명은 술을 중요한 창작 매 개로 삼아 시를 통해 자신들의 삶의 철학과 감정을 표현하였다. 도연명의 시에서는 술이 고요함, 초탈 감, 자기 위안을 추구하는 매개체로 사용되며, 이는 그의 자연과 전원생활에 대한 동경과 사회에 대한 비판적 시각을 반영한다. 반면, 이규보의 시에서는 낭만적이고 호방한 색채가 두드러지며, 술을 통해 자유롭고 이상적인 삶을 추구하고, 현실의 어려움과 고뇌를 잊고자 한다. 본 연구는 이규보와 도연명의 시를 술에 대한 인식, 술에 담긴 자연 풍류, 술에 담긴 입신양명의 측면 에서 분석하였다. 두 시인은 모두 술을 통해 자신들의 이상과 자유로운 정신을 표현하고 있으며, 각자 의 시에서 나타나는 술 이미지는 당대의 사회적, 문화적 배경을 반영하고 있다. 이러한 비교 연구를 통 해 한국과 중국 고전시가의 문화적 차이와 공통점을 이해할 수 있으며, 술이 시가에서 중요한 상징적 역할을 한다는 점을 확인할 수 있었다.
