The purpose of this study is to develop and validate the Korean Adult Anger Scale intended for determining the factors constituting the anger in Korean adults and for measuring the anger from multidimensional aspects. To that end, two projects were performed.Project 1 involved using the literature review, previous studies and an open-ended questionnaire to derive the preliminary questions from 100 adults. Afterwards, the content validity of the derived questions was verified by experts three times. Based on the key sentences derived as such, 100 preliminary questions representing Korean adults’ anger were selected, and the exploratory factor analysis was conducted of the preliminary survey results from the adult sample (N=214) living in Korea. The analysis highlighted a 3–factor structure of anger Korean adults experience involving the ‘emotional anger,’ the ‘behavioral anger,’ and the ‘anger thought,’ which is the belief resulting from the past experience as well as the current anger. 56 preliminary questions selected based on the preliminary survey (N=214) were used for the main survey(N=381) to finalize the 47 questions comprising the three explicit factors of anger, i.e. anger thought(17 items), emotional anger(12 items) and behavioral anger(18 items), based on the exploratory factor analysis and correlation analysis of all questions.Project 2 involved the validation of the Korean Adult Anger Scale formulated in the Project 1. First, the confirmatory factor analysis for the construct validity supported the adequacy of the 3-factor structure. Based on the analysis of reliability and item quality, the reliability of the scale was high (Cronbach α .957). Also, as for the analysis of concurrent validity and predictive validity via the analysis of the correlation with the tests for aggression and self-esteem, an adequate correlation was found between the anger rated on the Korean Adult Anger Scale, the aggression on the Aggression Test and the Negation on the Self-esteem Test. Therefore, the foregoing analysis results supported the reliability and validity of the Korean Adult Anger Scale.This study should be noted in that the Korean Adult Anger Scale developed and validated as aforementioned is conducive to the adequate measurement of Korean adults’ multidimensional anger, the understanding of their anger, the diagnosis and evaluation for treating issues including Hwa-byung, the lifelong adult education for the prevention of such offenses as child abuse, domestic violence or indiscriminative violence against many unspecified persons, and the rationale for continuous anger-related research and practice for developing anger management and teacher training programs. Hence, the findings of this study are applicable to a wide range of disciplines including medicine, nursing, health psychology, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, education, coaching, organizational psychology and criminal psychology. This paper also presents the discussion on the findings and the suggestions for further studies.

본 연구는 한국 성인의 분노를 측정하기 위하여 한국문화에 적합한 도구인 한국 성인 분노척도(Korean Adult Anger Scale:KAAS)를 개발하고 검증하였다. 이를 위한 개발 과정 연구 1에서는 포괄적인 문헌 검토, 개방형 설문 조사, 전문가 검토가 포함되어 100개의 기초 문항을 만들었다. 이 기초 문항으로 전국 표집으로 조사한 예비조사(N=214)의 설문 결과로 만들어진 56개의 문항 세트로 본 조사(N=381)를 하여 탐색적 요인 분석과 문항 전체 상관분석 결과에 기초해서 명확한 세 개의 분노 요인 구조 분노사고(17문항), 분노정서(12문항), 분노행동(18문항) 최종 47문항을 확정하였다. 확인적 요인 분석은 3 요인 구조를 뒷받침하여 모델 적합도가 양호함을 나타낸다(TLI = .905, CFI = .915, RMSEA = .053). KAAS는 전반적인 신뢰도(Cronbach's ⍺= .957)와 하위 요인 신뢰도(분노 생각 = .933, 분노 감정 = .909, 분노 행동 = .937)로 매우 높은 내부 일관성을 보여준다. 연구 2에서는 연구 1에서 제작된 한국 성인 분노척도(KAAS)를 타당화하였다. 기준 관련 타당성은 공격성 설문지(AQ-K) 및 자존감 척도(SES)와의 유의미한 상관관계를 통해 확립되었다. 신체적 공격성, 언어적 공격성, 적대감과 같은 관련 구성을 유의미하게 예측하는 KAAS 하위 요인에 의해 예측 타당성이 확인되었다. 분노사고(Cronbach's ⍺= .933), 분노정서(Cronbach's ⍺= .909), 분노행동(Cronbach's ⍺= .937) 전체 신뢰도(Cronbach's ⍺= 957)의 높은 신뢰도와 함께, 한국 성인 분노척도의 분노와 공격성 검사의 공격성 및 자아존중감검사의 부정과 적절한 상관을 보임으로써 한국 성인 분노척도가 신뢰롭고 타당한 척도임이 지지되었다.본 연구의 의의와 시사점은 한국성인 분노척도가 다차원적인 한국성인 분노 측정으로 분노에 대한 이해를 제공하고, 화병 등의 치료를 위한 분노의 진단과 평가, 그리고 평생교육 차원에서 성인 교육으로 아동학대나 가정폭력, 분노 범죄를 예방하며, 차후 분노조절프로그램 개발과 교사 연수 등을 통하여 계속되는 분노 관련 연구와 실천의 타당성을 제공하게 된 점에서 의의가 있다.
