Ecological Factors Influencing Contraceptive Use among Unmarried Male Adolescents Aged 15-19 in Indonesia : A Secondary Data Analysis
Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the factors influencing contraceptive use among unmarried male adolescents aged 15–19 in Indonesia. Methods: This was a secondary data analysis study using the 2012 Indonesian Adolescent Reproductive Health Survey. Results: Among unmarried male adolescents, 39.9% used contraception during their first sexual experience. Key individual factors included economic status (OR=1.25; CI=1.04–1.49) and contraceptive knowledge (OR=1.88; CI=1.04– 3.39). Among interpersonal factors, teacher consultations were significant (OR=3.23; CI=1.97–5.29), while within community factors, exposure to sex-related information through mass media was also significant (OR=1.37; CI=1.01–1.86). Conclusions: These findings underscore the need for contraceptive education for Indonesian male adolescents, particularly those from low-income backgrounds. Strengthening teachers' counseling skills and creating educational mass media content for adolescents are crucial steps.
