This study aimed to analyze the correlation between vocalization types and breeding behaviors of Rana huanrenensis during the breeding season to elucidate the biological functions of vocalizations and understand their reproductive mechanisms. From February 26th to March 4th, 2024, nocturnal vocalizations and behaviors of R. huanrenensis were recorded at the Mudeungsan National Park. A total of 661 vocalizations were categorized into eight types (A-H), with types A, B, C, and F showing strong associations with specific mating behaviors. The type A was the most frequently observed and associated to male-male competition and female attraction. The type F predominantly occurred during amplexus, suggesting its roles in mate stabilization and interference avoidance. The type B was emitted in competitive scenarios, while type C functioned as an extension of type A, playing a supplementary communicative role. Behavioral analyses indicated that the used frequency and types of vocalizations varied across reproductive stages, underscoring their significance in reproductive success. This study provides novel insights into the reproductive ecology and communication strategies of R. huanrenensis, highlighting the need for further research involving other regions and related species to explore ecological and evolutionary contexts.

본 연구는 계곡산개구리(Rana huanrenensis)의 번식기 울 음 유형과 행동 간의 상관관계를 분석하여 울음소리의 생물 학적 기능을 규명하고 번식 행동의 메커니즘을 이해하고자 하였다. 2024년 2월 26일부터 3월 4일까지 무등산국립공원 에서 계곡산개구리의 울음과 행동을 녹음 및 녹화하였다. 분 석 결과, 총 661개의 울음소리를 8가지(A-H) Type으로 분류 하였으며, A, B, C, F type이 특정 번식 행동과 연관된 것으로 나타났다. A type은 가장 많이 관찰된 울음으로 수컷 간 경쟁 과 암컷 유인과 관련되었으며, F type은 포접(amplexus) 단계 에서 주로 나타나 짝 안정화와 간섭 방지의 역할을 하는 것으 로 추측된다. B type은 경쟁 상황에서 짧은 시간에 발성되었 고, C type은 A type의 확장으로 보완적 의사소통의 역할을 수행하였다. 행동 단계에 따라 울음소리 유형과 빈도가 달라 지는 점은 울음소리가 번식 성공률에 중요한 역할을 한다는 것을 시사한다. 본 연구는 계곡산개구리의 번식 생태와 의사 소통 전략에 대한 새로운 통찰을 제공하며, 향후 국내 다른 지역 및 유사 종과의 비교 연구를 통해 생태학적, 진화적 관 점에서의 추가 연구가 필요하다.
