This study aims to analyze the factors behind the popularity of the North Korean defector's YouTube channel, Jeong Seong San TV, focusing on its discourse strategies. The research employs content analysis to examine the verbal and non-verbal strategies used by the host during the introduction, progression, and conclusion phases of the broadcast. The findings reveal that in the early stages of the broadcast, the host captures viewers' attention by employing North Korean intonations and accents, emphasizing far-right political ideologies to target specific audiences. During the broadcast, the host enhances credibility by presenting information from domestic and international media sources, as well as North Korean insiders, while engaging viewers through humor and informal language. In the concluding phase, the host uses strong political messages, lively music, and gestures to maintain viewer interest. This study analyzed five videos from to derive its findings, so it cannot be said that all of the host’s discourse strategies were fully extracted. However this study offers an in-depth understanding of how North Korean defectors’ YouTube channels communicate and gain attention in South Korean society. Additionally it highlights that emotional and ideological engagement through discourse strategies is a key success factor for this channel, offering an academic approach to understanding YouTube content and North Korean defectors' use of media.

이 연구는 북한이탈주민 유튜브 채널 <정성산TV>의 인기 요인을 담화 전략을 중 심으로 분석하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 방송의 시작, 진행, 마무리 단계에서 진행 자가 구사하는 언어적 및 비언어적 전략을 내용 분석의 방법으로 분석하였다. 연구 결 과, 진행자는 방송 초반 시청자의 관심을 끌기 위해 북한식 어조와 억양을 사용하며, 극 우주의적 정치 성향을 강조해 특정 타깃층을 겨냥했다. 방송 진행 중에는 국내외 언론 자료와 북한 소식통의 정보를 제시하여 신뢰성을 높였으며, 유머와 비속어를 통해 시 청자의 몰입을 유도했다. 마무리 단계에서는 강력한 정치적 메시지와 활기찬 음악, 제 스처를 활용해 시청자들의 관심을 끌었다. 이 연구는 <정성산TV>의 5개 영상을 분석 하여 결과를 도출하였기에, 진행자의 모든 담화 전략을 추출했다고 보기는 어렵다. 그 러나 본 연구는 북한이탈주민 유튜브 채널이 남한사회에서 어떻게 소통하고 주목받고 있는지에 대한 심층적 이해를 제공한다는 점에서 의의가 있을 것이다. 또한 담화 전략 을 통해 타깃층과의 정서적, 이념적 소통을 강화하는 방식이 이 채널의 성공 요인임을 밝힘으로써, 유튜브 콘텐츠와 북한이탈주민의 미디어 활용에 대해 학문적으로 접근했다는 데 의미가 있을 것이다.
