This study investigates the impact of entrepreneurial spirit among members of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) on management performance, stratified by metropolitan and non-metropolitan locations. The study further delineates absorptive capacity into potential absorptive capacity and realized absorptive capacity, examining their mediating effects. A survey encompassing 732 participants from the manufacturing, information and communication, and professional, scientific, and technical service sectors within domestic SMEs was conducted. The findings are as follows: Firstly, entrepreneurial spirit did not exhibit a positive effect on management performance for firms located in either capital or non-capital areas. Nevertheless, entrepreneurial spirit significantly influenced both potential and realized absorptive capacities, which served as mediating variables. Notably, firms in metropolitan areas benefited positively through both potential and realized absorptive capacities, whereas firms in non-metropolitan areas did not show statistically significant results. Irrespective of location, both potential and realized absorptive capacities positively double-mediated the relationship between entrepreneurial spirit and management performance. Based on these results, this study suggests that managers should recognize the critical importance of fostering entrepreneurial spirit and facilitate its enhancement, absorption, and utilization at the organizational level. Directions for future research are also proposed to further explore these dynamics.

본 연구는 중소기업 구성원의 기업가정신이 경영성과에 미치는 영향을 수도권/비수 도권 소재지 별로 이원화하여 확인하였으며, 흡수역량을 잠재흡수역량과 실현흡수역량 으로 구분하여 매개효과를 실증하였다. 국내 중소기업 중 제조업, 정보통신업, 전문·과 학 및 기술 서비스업 산업군 소속 구성원 732명을 대상으로 설문 조사하였으며, 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 먼저, 수도권/비수도권 소재 기업 구성원의 기업가정신은 경영성 과에 긍정적인 영향을 미치지 않았다. 다만, 기업가정신은 매개변수에 해당하는 잠재흡 수역량과 실현흡수역량에는 직접적인 영향을 미쳤다. 특히, 수도권 소재 기업은 잠재흡 수역량과 실현흡수역량을 매개로 긍정적인 영향을 주었으나, 비수도권 소재 기업은 통 계적으로 유의하지 않았다. 그러나, 소재지와 상관없이 모든 기업의 잠재흡수역량과 실 현흡수역량은 긍정적인 방향으로 기업가정신과 경영성과를 이중 매개하였다. 이에 본 연구 결과를 토대로 경영자가 기업가정신의 중요성을 인식하고 조직 차원에서 기업가정 신을 제고, 흡수, 활용을 촉진하는 방향의 제언과 후속 연구 방향을 제안하였다.
