Growing concerns about climate change and increasing demands for corporate social responsibility are important changes in the business environment for companies. In order to respond to these changes and increase sustainability, companies are actively engaging in ESG management that reflects non-financial factors such as responsibility for the environment and society, and transparency of corporate governance. Academic research on corporate ESG management is also rapidly increasing, but it mainly deals with large corporations and listed companies. ESG research on SMEs is also on the rise, but there is not enough ESG management and CSR(Corporate Social Responsibility) research that takes into account the characteristics of start-ups aimed at survival and growth beyond the limit of newness. This study aims to review domestic and overseas research on ESG management, including CSR activities, conducted to date for start-ups that are of great importance as a driving force for new economic growth and a source of innovation, and to suggest implications and directions for future research. This article targeted domestic and international quantitative and qualitative studies, analyzed research trends, detailed topics, research methods, and major research results, and proposed future research topics and fields. In a situation where the practice of ESG management by start-up is expanding as a strategic choice, this study is significant as the first study to address research trends related to ESG and CSR of start-ups.

기후변화에 대한 전 세계의 우려와 기업의 사회적책임에 대한 요구 증가는 기업들에 게 중요한 경영환경의 변화이다. 이에 따라 기업은 지속가능성을 강화하기 위해 환경 (Environment)과 사회(Social)에 대한 책임, 기업 지배구조(Governance)의 투 명성과 같은 비재무적 요소들을 경영 활동에 반영하는 ESG 경영에 적극적으로 나서고 있다. 이에 따라 기업의 ESG 경영에 관한 학문적 연구도 급속히 증가하고 있으나 주로 대기업이나 상장기업을 다루고 있다. 규모와 형태가 매우 다양한 중소기업을 대상으로 한 ESG 경영 연구도 증가하는 추세이지만 신생의 어려움(Liability of Newness)과 자원의 한계를 넘어 생존과 성장을 목표로 하는 창업기업(startup)의 ESG 경영과 CSR(Corporate Social Responsibility) 활동의 특성을 충분히 고려하고 있지 못 하다. 본 연구는 새로운 경제성장의 동력이자 혁신의 원천으로서의 중요성이 큰 창업기 업을 대상으로 현재까지 진행된 CSR 활동을 포함한 ESG 경영 관련 국내외 연구를 고 찰하고 시사점과 향후 연구의 방향을 제안하는 것을 목표로 한다. 문헌고찰은 국내외 양적 ·질적 연구를 대상으로 하였으며 연구의 추이, 세부 주제, 연구 방법, 주요 연구 결 과 등을 분석하고 향후 요구 되는 연구 주제와 분야에 대해 제안하였다. 창업기업의 ESG 경영 실천이 전략적 선택으로 확대되고 있는 상황에서 본 연구는 창업기업의 ESG와 CSR관련 연구 동향을 다루는 첫 번째 연구로서의 의미를 가지며, 연구결과를 통해 창업기업 관련 ESG 경영과 CSR 관련 연구의 폭넓은 증가에 기여하고자 한다.
