This study provides an in-depth analysis of the feasibility and strategic importance of Wing In Ground effect(WIG) ships in today’s complex military environment. The objective of this study is to provide concrete suggestions on how WIGs can overcome the limitations and inefficiencies faced by conventional maritime operations forces, with a focus on irregular warfare at sea. To do so, we examined the technical features and advantages of the WIGs and analyzed their potential applications in key areas of irregular warfare, such as maritime surveillance, logistical support, intelligence gathering, national incident and disaster response. The results show that WIGs have the potential to dramatically improve the economy and efficiency of maritime operations, as well as effectively compensate for the shortcomings of conventional means of operation. This study sheds new light on maritime strategy and operations by suggesting ways in which WIGs can be utilized to innovatively improve the efficiency and effectiveness of operations across the board, beyond just irregular warfare missions. This is an important contribution that could revolutionize the way maritime operations are conducted. The findings and suggestions of this study shed new light on the military utility of WIGs and will be an important reference for maritime security strategies as well as irregular warfare.

본 연구는 현대의 복잡한 군사 환경 속에서 위그선(Wing In Ground effect ships, WIGs)의 활용 가능성 및 전략적 중 요성을 심도 있게 분석하였다. 이 연구의 목적은 해상에서의 비정규전을 중심으로 위그선이 기존의 해양작전 전력이 직면한 한계와 비효율성을 어떻게 극복할 수 있는지에 대한 구체적인 방안을 제시하는 것이다. 이를 위해 위그선의 기술적 특징과 장점을 살펴보고 해양 감시, 군수지원, 정보수집, 국지도발 및 재난 대응과 같은 비정규전의 주요 분야에서의 응용 가능성을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 위그선은 해양작전의 경제성과 효율성을 극적으로 향상시킬 뿐만 아니라 기존의 작전 수단들이 가진 단점을 효과적으로 보완할 수 있는 잠재력이 있음을 확인하였다. 이 연구는 비정규전 임무를 넘어 작전 전반의 효율성과 효과 를 혁신적으로 개선하기 위한 위그선의 활용방안을 제시함으로써 해양 전략과 작전에 대한 새로운 시각을 제시한다. 이는 해 양작전 수행 방식에 혁신을 가져올 수 있는 중요한 기여로 평가된다. 본 연구의 결과와 제안은 위그선의 군사적 활용성을 다 시 한 번 조명하며, 비정규전뿐만 아니라 해양 안보 전략을 수립하는 데 있어 중요한 참고자료가 될 것이다.
