The aim of study is investigate effects of English classes using Artificial intelligence(AI) Chatbot on English pronunciation and vocabulary ability of elementary students. Forty participants(5th graders) were divided into experimental( n=20) and control(n=20) groups. Their pronunciation scores of pre-and post-pronunciation tests focusing on segmentals, stress, intonation, speed and rhythm were quantitatively analyzed. Findings of this study indicated that: 1) There were statistically significant differences in pronunciation abilities between the two groups. 2) There were statistically improve in English vocabulary abilities in both group. 3) students responses to open-ended questions that AI Pengtalk classes enhanced their interests, and helped them speak English well, enhanced their interests, positive attitudes and self-confidence in their English study. These results suggest that AI Pengtalk is good tool for developing students’ English pronunciation abilities in schools.

영어교육의 궁극적 지향점은 ‘의사소통 역량’이다. 우리나라 학생들은 노출과 학습강도가 미흡한 상황이나, 인공 지능(Artificial intelligence, AI) 챗봇을 이용한 외국어 회화 연습으로 이를 극복할 수 있다는 여러 연구 결과가 있 다. 영어 인공지능 시스템인 AI 펭톡은 초등학교 학습자를 위해 제작된 맞춤형 인공지능 말하기 연습시스템이다. 본 연구에서는 AI 펭톡을 활용한 공교육 영어과 수업을 구성하고, 초등학생 학습자들의 발음 능력과 어휘력에 미 치는 영향, 영어과 학습에 대한 정의적 영역에 대한 변화를 분석한다. 실험집단 20명, 통제 집단 20명으로 5학년 학생 전체 40명을 대상으로 10차시의 수업을 4주간 실시한 후 결과를 평가하였다. 결과에 따르면 두 집단 모두 발 음 능력과 어휘력이 향상되었고, 실험집단의 경우 발음 능력 향상 정도에서 통제집단과 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 보였다. 학생들은 AI 펭톡을 활용한 영어 수업에 전반적으로 긍정적인 반응을 보였으며, 영어 학습에 대한 자신감 이 향상된 것을 확인하였다.
