As of 2024, Korea's declining birthrate has already begun. Due to the ultra-low birthrate, danger signals are gradually being detected in the field of sports, and there are self-deprecating voices of concern that the very existence of sports in Korea is in danger from a long-term perspective. This study aims to examine the problems of the upcoming changes in the sports environment due to the ultra-low birthrate era and to discuss in-depth the response strategies from various perspectives. It was predicted that the upcoming changes in the sports environment in the era of ultra-low birthrate will result in, first, the difficulty in fostering athletes according to the decline in the school-age population: the ‘collapse of the sports ecosystem’ ; second, domestic sports events and competitions that are shaken by the imbalance between the disappearance of rural cities and the overcrowding of metropolitan areas; and third, the decline in population and the crisis of the sports industry. In response to the upcoming changes in the sports environment in the era of ultra-low birthrate, the study presents policy suggestions on, first, establishing an integrated athlete development system: constructing a system for discovering sports talents through ‘selection’ and ‘focus’ strategies; second, the era of migration: the need for a flexible policy shift beyond the institutional limitations of Korean sports; and third, the solution to the disappearance of rural cities: fostering a sustainable local sports industry.

2024년 현재 우리나라의 저출산 현상은 이미 시작되었다. 초저출산 현상으로 인해 체육계 현장에서도 조금씩 위 험 신호가 감지되고 있으며, 장기적인 관점에서 우리나라 스포츠 존립 자체에 대한 위기감이 느껴진다는 자조 섞인 우려의 목소리가 나오고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 초저출산 시대 다가올 스포츠 환경변화에 대한 문제점에 대해 고찰한 후 대응 전략 을 다각적 관점에서 심도 있게 논의하고자 하였다. 초저출산 시대 다가올 스포츠의 환경변화는 첫째, 학령인구 감소에 따른 선수 육성: ‘스포츠 생태계 붕괴’, 둘째, 지방 도시소멸과 수도권 인구 과밀화의 불균형 속에 흔들리는 국내 스포츠 이벤트 대회, 셋째, 인구 감소와 스포츠산업의 위기 등을 초래할 것으로 예측하였다. 이에 초저출산 시대 다가올 스포츠의 환경변화에 따라 첫째, 통합 선수 육성체계: ‘선택’과 ‘집중’ 전략을 통한 체육(스포츠)영재발굴 시스템 구축, 둘째, 이주시 대: 한국스포츠의 제도적 한계를 넘어 유연한 정책적 사고 전환 필요, 셋째, 지방 도시소멸의 해법: 지속 가능한 지역 스포 츠산업 육성 등에 대한 정책적 제언을 제시하였다.
