This study explores the significance of translation and interpretation training in multicultural contexts, alongside the critical role of conversational artificial intelligence (AI) utilization. Anticipated in 2024, South Korea is set to be the first country in Asia where the foreign population exceeds 5% of its total, heralding its transition into a multiethnic and multicultural society. This shift amplifies the need for robust translation and interpretation education, particularly for those not native in Korean. Despite the rising adoption of conversational AI like ChatGPT, there exists a notable deficiency in the understanding and application of these technologies among translation learners. The discourse thus sheds light on the educational importance of prompt engineering, offering insights into effective prompt formulation strategies to leverage AI in translation assistance. The research outcomes underscore that prompt clarity, specificity, and the provision of adequate context substantially enhance translation quality. The implementation of a “Prompt 1+2” strategy notably reduced Translation Edit Rate (TER) values, signifying advancements in translation accuracy and fluency. However, AI translations still face challenges in fully comprehending linguistic, cultural, and structural nuances. The study advocates for an educational strategy centered around prompt engineering to equip learners with the ability to navigate AI translation limitations and refine translation quality. This approach introduces a novel educational direction in the application of AI within translation and interpretation training, aiming to elevate the quality of education in this arena.

본 연구는 다문화 사회에서의 번역 교육과 대화형 인공지능(AI) 활용의 중요성을 살 펴보았다. 2024년, 한국은 아시아 최초로 외국인 인구가 총인구의 5%를 넘어서며 다인 종·다문화 국가로 진입할 것이다. 이러한 사회 변화는 번역 교육의 중요성을 증대시키 며, 한국어 비모어 화자를 위한 교육의 필요성을 강조한다. 특히, 번역 학습자들 사이 에서는 대화형 AI를 효과적으로 활용하기 위한 이해와 지식은 아직도 부족하다. 이에 본고는 프롬프트 엔지니어링의 교육적 중요성을 조명하며, AI 번역 보조 도구의 효과 적 활용을 위한 프롬프트 설정 원리와 TER 값을 통한 유효성에 대해 논의하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 프롬프트의 명확성 및 구체성과 충분한 맥락 제공이 번역 품질에 긍정적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 특히, 프롬프트 1+2 적용 시 TER 값이 감소하여 번역의 정확성과 유창성이 향상되었음을 확인하였다. 그러나 여전히 AI 번역에서는 언어적, 문화적, 구조적 요소들을 완전히 이해하지 못하는 한계가 존재하 였다. 둘째, 본고는 프롬프트 엔지니어링을 통해 교육적 접근을 제안한다. 이는 학습자 가 AI 번역의 한계를 인식하고, 번역문의 질을 향상시키기 위한 기술과 지식을 습득하 는 데 도움을 줄 것이다. 이러한 접근은 번역 교육 분야에서 AI 기술의 활용 방법에 대 한 새로운 교육 방향을 제시하며, 번역 교육의 질을 향상시키는 데 기여할 것이다.
