As society reexamines artificial intelligence, it also reevaluates the role of data, an essential element. This shift necessitates the development of curricula or programs in schools that incorporate data, aiming to transform educational methods to empower learners to construct their own knowledge. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of a data visualization education program on the communication skills of 6th-grade elementary school students. We created the data visualization program based on requests from research participants, the 2015 revised curriculum, and insights from previous research. This program allows students to experience data visualization methods that focus on numeric and character data. Students then individually select research topics, collect and visualize data, and use this data as material for writing editorials. This study is significant as it showcases how integrating data visualization education into the elementary curriculum can enhance communication skills.

인공지능이 사회에서 재조명되며 불가결한 요소인 데이터를 바라보는 시각 또한 변화하였다. 이에 학교 현장에 서도 데이터를 이용한 교육과정이나 프로그램을 개발하여 학습자가 스스로 지식을 창출하도록 교육 방식을 전환 할 필요가 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 데이터 시각화 교육 프로그램이 초등학교 6학년 학생의 의사소통능력에 미치 는 영향을 알아보는 데 그 목적을 둔다. 연구 참여자의 사전 요구와 2015개정 교육과정 및 선행 연구를 기초로 구 성한 데이터 시각화 프로그램은 숫자, 문자 데이터를 중심으로 데이터 시각화 방법을 체험하며, 이후 개별적으로 탐구 주제를 선정하여 데이터를 수집하고 시각화하여 논설문 작성 자료로 활용한다. 본 연구는 초등교육 현장에서 교육과정과 융합한 데이터 시각화 교육 사례를 제시하고, 이 프로그램의 효과성을 의사소통능력의 측면에서 제시 하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.
