In this study, we conducted in-depth interviews with seven multicultural married couples who reported high levels of relationship satisfaction, aiming to explore their conflict experiences, coping strategies, and the process of marital adaptation. The content of the in-depth interviews was analyzed according to Strauss and Corbin's (1998) grounded theory approach with the standard procedures of open coding, axial coding, and selective coding to derive a total of 162 concepts, 33 subcategories, and 12 categories. Based on the paradigm, five stages of conflict coping and adaptation process for multicultural married couples were extracted: “Symbiotic Relationship”, “Acceptance Stage”, “Separation/Individuation Stage”, “Self-Growth Stage” and “Establishment of Family Identity Stage”. The study’s findings revealed that most multicultural couples initially experienced conflicts and challenges arising from cultural and expectations differences, while through the developmental tasks of childbirth and family expansion, they gradually established their independence from their original families and formed a shared marital community, leading to their marital adaptation as integral members of Korean society. Notably, the active involvement of husbands in embracing and supporting their wives' language and culture, as well as the utilization of public support systems like multicultural family support centers, played crucial roles in this process.

본 연구에서는 다문화결혼 부부의 갈등 경험 및 대처, 결혼 적응에 이르는 과정을 살 펴보고자 관계 만족도가 높은 다문화 결혼 부부 7쌍을 대상으로 심층 면접을 실시하였 다. 심층면접내용은 Strauss와 Corbin(1998)의 근거이론적 접근법에 따라 개방코딩, 축코딩, 선택코딩에 의해 자료를 분석하여, 총 162개의 개념과 33개의 하위범주, 12개 의 범주가 도출되었다. 패러다임을 기반으로 다문화결혼 부부의 갈등대처 및 적응과정 은 1단계 ‘공생적 관계: 의존성과 부부역할 불분명’, 2단계 ‘수용의 단계: 현실 인정과 책 임 인식’, 3단계 ‘분리/개별화 단계: 자율성의 추구’, 4단계 ‘자기성장 단계: 역할과 권한 의 자기부여’, 5단계 ‘가족정체성 확립단계: 사회적 역할의 확장’으로 나타났다. 연구결과를 통해 다문화결혼 부부 대부분 결혼초기, 문화적 차이와 기대 차이에서 오는 갈등과 위기를 경험하지만, 자녀의 출산과 양육이라는 발달 과업에 직면하면서 원가족으로부터 독립하고 부부 공동체를 형성하며, 한국사회일원으로서 외국인 아내 의 홀로서기가 이뤄질 때 결혼 적응으로 이어지는 것을 볼 수 있었다. 특히 이 과정에 서 외국인 아내의 언어와 문화를 적극적으로 수용하고 지지하는 남편의 참여와, 사적 지원을 넘어서 다문화가족지원센터와 같은 공적 지원체계의 적극 활용이 매우 중요한 요소임을 확인할 수 있었다.
