In this study, silicon sludge from semiconductor dicing process is coated with metal oxide and applied as coloring material for paints. In specific, metallic impurities in silicon sludge are removed by acid washing to prepare high-purity silicon powder. And then, as-obtained silicon powder is coated with titanium dioxide (TiO2) using a facile sol-gel method. The thickness of the TiO2 layer is controlled to express the colors of white and yellow. In practical application, the whiteand yellow-colored silicon powders are prepared in paint materials and applied to glass substrates. In addition the results of the color coordinate values in the CIE L*a*b* color space have verified the appearance of white and yellow colors. Accordingly, silicon sludge generated in the semiconductor dicing process is successfully recycled and applied as paint, which may suggest the possibility of effectively employing new materials for paints showing various colors.

본 연구에서는 반도체 다이싱 공정에서 발생하는 실리콘 슬러지에서 금속 산화물을 도입하여 도료 물질로 제조하였다. 상세히는, 실리콘 슬러지의 금속 불순물을 산처리를 하여 고순도의 실리콘 분말을 수득하고, 간단한 졸-겔법을 이용하여 이산화티타늄(TiO2)을 코팅하였다. 이산화티타늄의 코팅 층 두께를 조절하여 흰색과 노란색 물질로 제조하였다. 실제 응 용을 확인하기 위해 흰색과 노란색의 실리콘 분말을 도료 형태로 제조하여 유리 기판에 적용하였다, 추가적으로, CIE L*a*b* 색상 표현에서 좌표값의 결과로 흰색과 노란색 물질이 인식되었음을 확인하였다. 따라서 반도체 다이싱 공정에 서 발생하는 실리콘 슬러지를 성공적으로 재활용하였으며, 다양한 색상을 나타내는 새로운 도료 물질로 효과적으로 활용 될 수 있는 가능성을 제시하였다.
