Purpose : This study aims to analyze the motivation for choosing the dental hygiene major and the level of satisfaction with the major among college students preparing to become dental hygienists, to provide foundational data for improving the education of competent dental hygienists. Methods : A survey was conducted from June 8 to 23, 2023, with 248 enrolled students in the dental hygiene department at S University located in Gyeonggi Province. The data analysis was performed using the statistical program R. Results : Significant influences on major satisfaction were found in academic performance, reasons for major selection, and interpersonal relationships. Conclusion : To enhance the selection process for the major, it is important to promote the consideration of aptitude and interest. Moreover, efforts should be made to increase satisfaction with the major by exploring various educational program approaches, thereby fostering proud and competent ental health professionals.
