This study aims at identifying crucial factors that are associated with gambling problems of juvenile delinquents under probation supervision in South Korea. Few studies have been conducted regarding significant factors affecting the level of gambling problems among juvenile delinquents. Due to the recent COVID-19 epidemic, online gambling problems among adolescents have dramatically risen. Furthermore, additional problems such as participating in additional crimes to maintain gambling have increased. In this context, the current study focuses on finding key factors that are related to gambling problems of young offenders by concerning differential association theory. In particular,, this study emphasizes important factors affecting the gambling problems of adolescents by using samples under probation supervision. This present study was conducted with the cooperation of Korean Ministry of Justice and the date was drawn from the survey which was targeting toward 189 adolescents in 2022. Sample numbers of juvenile delinquents that were utilized for the present study were 113 adolescents who had showed answers for previous gambling experience. Results demonstrated that gambling experience of family members was not statistically significant factor that was related to gambling of juvenile delinquents, while associations with delinquent friend was statistically significant factor that impacts on gambling problems when other variables were controlled. In addition, irrational gambling beliefs was statistically significant factor that can affect gambling problems when other variables was constant. Further policy implications and limitations of the analysis will be discussed.

최근 COVID-19의 유행으로 청소년의 온라인 도박문제가 심각한 사회적으로 이슈가 되었 고, 도박자금 마련을 위한 청소년의 2차 범죄 가담이 증가하고 있는 상황이다. 아쉽게도 비행 청소년의 도박문제 수준에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 국내 연구는 활발하지 않다. 이에 이 연구에서는 차별적 접촉이론을 중심으로 현재 보호관찰 처분을 받은 청소년의 도박문제에 영 향을 미치는 위험요인을 알아보고자 하였다. 2022년 법무부의 협조를 받아 전국 보호관찰소 에서 수강명령을 받고 있는 보호관찰 대상 청소년 189명에게 설문조사를 실시하였고, 이 중 도박 경험이 있는 113명의 청소년의 데이터를 분석에 활용하였다. 그 결과, 비행청소년이 직 접 가족의 도박 경험을 목격한 변인은 다중회귀분석 모델 내에서 통계적으로 유의미한 요인 이 아닌 것으로 나타났다. 반면, 친구의 도박 경험 목격 요인과 비합리적 도박 신념이 다른 변인을 통제했을 때 비행 청소년의 도박문제 수준에 유의미한 정(+)적 영향을 미치는 주요 변인인 것으로 드러났다. 이하 구체적인 정책적 제언을 본문에서 다루도록 한다.
