By analyzing the experiences of teachers and bilingual instructors who taught Muslim adolescents with migration backgrounds, this study attempts to understand the difficulties of Muslim adolescents with migration backgrounds in adapting to Korea and how they cope with them, and to seek the necessary support measures for them. To this end, we conducted in-depth interviews with four teachers and three bilingual instructors who had a close relationship with Muslim adolescents with migration backgrounds in Yeonsu-gu, Incheon. As a result of the study, we find that Muslim adolescents with migration backgrounds in the study area lived with their parents who have a double-income for a livelihood in many cases and lacked the necessary care for their age. In particular, matters that teachers and bilingual instructors who experienced Muslim adolescents with migration backgrounds pointed out as needing attention were mostly issues related to religion(or culture), except for linguistic communication. In addition, some Muslim adolescents with migration backgrounds were using social resources to adapt to Korean schools and private education by Muslims. Based on this, we suggest that more diverse statistics are needed to understand the situation of Muslim adolescents with migration backgrounds, and to help them understand cultural differences and build positive relationships, systems are needed to strengthen teachers’ multicultural sensitivity and competence and to train bilingual counselors who understand Muslim culture.

본 연구에서는 무슬림 이주배경청소년을 가르친 교사와 이중언어강사의 경험을 분 석함으로써 무슬림 이주배경청소년들이 한국에서의 적응과정에서 겪는 어려움과 이에 대한 대처 방식을 파악하고, 이들에게 필요한 지원 방안을 모색하고자 하였다. 이를 위 해 인천 연수구의 무슬림 이주배경청소년과 밀접한 관계를 맺고 있는 교사 4인 및 이중 언어강사 3인을 대상으로 심층 인터뷰를 수행하였다. 연구 결과 연구대상 지역의 무슬 림 이주배경청소년들은 많은 경우 생계형 맞벌이에 종사하는 부모들과 함께 거주하며 해당 연령에 필요한 돌봄이 부족한 상태로 생활하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 특히 무슬 림 이주배경청소년들을 경험한 교사 및 이중언어강사에 의해 주의가 필요하다고 지적 된 부분은 언어적 의사소통을 제외하면 대부분의 문제는 종교(문화)와 관련된 이슈였 다. 또한 무슬림 이주배경청소년들 일부에서는 한국의 학교에 적응하기 위한 사회적 자원, 무슬림에 의한 사교육 공간을 활용하고 있는 모습을 확인할 수 있었다. 이에 무 슬림 이주배경청소년들의 상황을 파악할 수 있는 통계자료 필요, 문화적 차이를 이해 하고 긍정적인 관계형성을 도울 수 있도록 교사의 다문화 감수성 및 역량 강화, 무슬림 의 문화를 이해하는 이중언어 상담사 양성 등을 제언하였다.
